How to Make $5 a Day Online with Amazon Mechanical Turk

Different people have different goals for what they want to make online. If you are working on Amazon Mechanical Turk you might have a daily goal. I suggest to start with a $5 daily goal and go from there. This is $150 a month.

When you first sign on to Amazon Mechanical Turk you might be a little overwhelmed and wonder how you can make $5 a month.

The first thing you want to do is make sure you are signed up with the Turking Forum called Turker Nation. This is the best place to find the best hits each day.  Recently Turker Nation has made it more difficult for people to join and have access to their forum.  I was told about http://mturkforum.com and that is where I go these days.

Every morning when you start on Amazon mechanical Turk I would go to the forum and search for the survey threads. There are two of them. “The Cool Surveys” thread and the “Piggy Bank HITs” thread. These two are the most important threads if you are open to working on surveys. You will find out which surveys are out there, about how long they take and what they pay. Visit both of those threads and do as many of the surveys that you can. Now most surveys only take a limited amount of people so it is best to check these threads throughout your day. You usually can always find at least one survey to do.

When it comes to taking surveys I want to use my time wisely. If a survey is less than $1, it better take me less than 10 minutes, 5 minutes is ideal. I will spend a little more time on one if it is over $1. You just have to play around with it and find what works for you. The longer you do it the better you will be at picking which surveys are worth your time and which ones are not. You do not want to spend an hour to make $1.00.

After I look at the survey threads I hit “new posts” on the forum to see if anything catches my eye. After that I will search by “HIT creation date (newest first)” and look at what is there. I like to find hits where I can do a lot of them at a time even if they are .05 each. They also have to be very quick to do. I don’t want to spend a lot of time on each of those types of hits.

Writing hits are another option I like to search for. These hits take more time but you can make a lot of money quickly if you work on them.

If you find that you can’t find any good hits, take a break and come back later. Hits are always being added and you can see how many are active at any given time. Right now there are 196,226 available to search though.

If you use these methods you should be able to come up with $5 each day.  All that would be is finding 5- $1 surveys.  You can play around with it to find out what will work best for you.  After some time you can start to slowly increase your per day earnings.  At one point I was making $25 a day which was very nice.  Especially since at the time I didn’t have any other forms of online income.

Working on Amazon Mechanical Turk is not passive income but it is income you can make online. I find it a great way to make some extra income as your grow your passive income businesses.

Make Money Online by selling on Zazzle

Another way for moms to make money online would be to sell on Zazzle or Cafepress. Zazzle is a site where you can upload your photos or designs and sell products to other people made from your art work. When someone buys your product, you get paid and Zazzle ships it out.

I started a Zazzle account the summer of 2008 with some of my photography. I spent a month or two blogging about it but soon lost interest. I had forgotten all about this. In 2010 I started a new Zazzle account because I admit I had forgotten about the old one. Well to my surprise I was checking an older email account and saw I had sold something. I went to my old Zazzle account and saw that I had been selling things all this time and didn’t even realize it. Now it isn’t much but I had made $20 through them. This was all passive income for me.

Now what do I do about this? Could a person really make a lot of money on Zazzle? $20 in 4 years isn’t a lot. However I haven’t really done any promotion since 2008 and I am still selling things. What would happen if I worked to promote the site a little? What if I added more of my work? Maybe I should spend a few months adding a lot more work, doing some promotion and then sit back and see what happens? It could be a way to earn a little passive income which I talked about yesterday.

Cafepress is the same type of site but I find their templetes and set up a little more confusing. I am not sure which site would get you more traffic.

For my photography I am not going to focus on t-shirts. It would be more posters, magnets and greeting cards. I think Cafepress might be better for those trying to sell t-shirts.

I have heard that the more you have listed on Zazzle, the better you do. As of right now I have 97 items and 5 views today. What would happen if I turned that 97 into 9700? Would I be able to make enough to consider it a good source of income? Now the cost to me is pretty much zero. It doesn’t cost anything to have a Zazzle store. I take pictures anyway so that wouldn’t be an extra cost. It would just take time to put more products in my store. The benefit of using Zazzle is that if something doesn’t sell, you don’t have to pay for it and you don’t have to worry about shipping the item yourself. Zazzle takes care of all that for you.

If you enjoy photography or graphic design, this could be a great way to make some money online. You might even be able to buy royalty free images to use in your store. You will want to make sure that you are allowed to use the images commercially. Different photos and designs have different licences on them. There are images that you are free to download and use as say a desktop background but you can not use these in a store like Zazzle to make money.

Has anyone had any experience with Zazzle? Good or bad? Have you made a good amount of money on Zazzle?

Make Money Online By Blogging

Another great way to make money online is by having a themed blog.  Sometimes they are called Authority blogs.  You can also make money on Micro niche blogs but I will talk about that method later. Themed blogging is when you start a blog based on something you love or something you have gone through and blog about it. Sometimes people will blog about their daily lives. I would put Mom Bloggers in this category as well.

Here are some of my favorite themed blogs:

Make Money Online By BloggingA lot of people start blogs but not everyone goes public with them. By public I mean opening it up to the world to come visit them vs just having a blog for family and friends. I started my blogging journey when I got pregnant for the first time. I wanted a place to share about the pregnancy and life with a new baby. I really only cared about my friends and family reading it. I didn’t advertise it out there on the world wide web. This was before I ever joined Facebook or even Myspace. In 2007 I found Myspace and by 2009 I was all about Facebook. At this time I felt like what I normally posted on my blog I was already posting on Facebook. This is when I made the decision to start a public blog.

At first I had no visitors. I would blog about something hoping for response and got nothing in return. I even joined Twitter and Tweeted out my blog posts and got very little response. It was that way until I realized that there was a whole community of bloggers just like me blogging about the same thing I was and that all I needed to do what to connect with them through their blogs or on Twitter or even Facebook.

Once I started to do this my traffic went up. I was offered a book to review and from there things started to grow. By the sixth month mark I was at PR 4! I didn’t even really know what Page Rank was at the time but 4 sounded good especially since I had not done anything SEO related besides commenting on other blogs and being active on Twitter.

As of today I have made a little bit of money on this blog. Most of it in product reviews. There are a lot of other mom bloggers making a lot more than I am. Most of the ways people make money from this type of blog are from ads, either something like Google Adsense or private ads. They also might write an E-book and have affiliates for different products using companies like Amazon Associates or Clickbank. They might do sponsored posts as well. This is when a company will pay a blogger to write about their product.

If you are new to blogging and would like to make money with a blog like this I would suggest the first thing to do is build up your blog with good quality posts, connect with other blogs and learn some of the SEO basics. It might take a little longer to make the income you want but it will be worth it.

I also wanted to say that some of the rewards of this kind of blogging don’t have to do with money.  Blogging can be a wonderful way to reach other people and connect with them.

Do you have a traditional blog? Do you call yourself a Mom Blogger?
