We all know that visiting other blogs is important. I have talked about how I like to keep track of the blogs I visit using Google Reader.
But really, how many blogs should you be visiting a day?
I try to visit between 10-20 blogs a day. I don’t always comment. Sometimes I skim. Sometimes I just share the blog. But I try to get through at least that many each day. Having the next button on my toolbar really helps.
I have subscribed to a bunch of different types of blogs. Some are news blogs that I like to skim to see if any of the articles would be good to share with my readers. Others are blogs I enjoy just for fun and will share if I really enjoy the post. I also have a small amount of blogs written by friends who live far away. This allows me to keep up with them and see how they are doing.
Somedays I might read more than 20, others less than 10 but 10-20 is what I shoot for.
Visiting blogs is good for a few different reasons. One, it is good for your soul to read what others have written. Some blogs inspire, others teach and some are just good for entertainment.
Another reason to visit other blogs is to connect with other bloggers. As a blogger you will want to meet similar people who have the same goals you do or have been where you have been. It is good to network that way. If I leave a good comment on a blog, the owner will probably visit mine. I also like the idea of being apart of the blogging community. Of interacting with others and seeing them grow their blogs while I grow mine. We can really help each other out as we are on similar paths.
Visiting other blogs can help give you ideas for your own blog posts. You don’t ever want to copy anyone but you can always blog about the same topic, putting your own spin on it. You can make a list of blog posts that have really touched you and use it to get ideas when you are planning out your own posts.
When I first started publically blogging in 2009 it took me a few weeks to figure out how important it was to visit other blogs in my niche. Just connecting that way made a world of difference when it came to driving traffic to my blog. And the best part is, visiting other blogs is a lot of fun. I would rather do that all day then work on which SEO phrases I need to use or figure out how to rank in Google. Visiting other blogs is one of my favorite parts of being a blogger.
If you need to find new blogs in your niche you can either Google exactly what you are looking for or find forums and lists of other bloggers. If your niche is popular enough, you should be able to find a blogging community filled with other people who blog about the same thing.

I don’t get to read blogs every day, but I try to visit 10-20 a few times per week. I definitely think it is a good practice. I try to add posts I love to Buffer and share the love with others.

Hi Julie
Since I started blog hopping on a daily basis I have seen a big increase of traffic to my own blog, I started visiting 5 blogs every day but now I am up to around 10 and I always leave a comment.
I am also building up some good relationships with fellow bloggers which is so important in the blogging world.
Thanks for sharing, hope you have a great day

I recently started following 5-6 blogs on a daily basis and I have been truly blessed by it. One thing is that I constantly get new ideas and inspiration for my own blog, and as you mentioned, I get to connect with new people and new blogs out there.
In that process I just found your blog on Blog Engage and I will do my best to follow you there and visit your blog as well! Keep up the good work and God bless you!

Thats really good advice Julie, I don’t visit very many blog sites at all at the moment. But it does make sense to visit other peoples for inspiration etc.
Thanks for sharing,
Kerry
Hi Julie,
Glad I found your blog.Clicked on it from a comment you made on Tiffany Dow’s blog.
I’ve been reading and commenting on others’ blogs for the last month regularly and it’s done wonders for my own traffic and comments, so it definitely works.
It does give me some ideas for my own blog posts, but the best part it, it motivates me to post more regularly. It’s really cool when you are the first comment on a blog.
I’ll be sure to check back often.
Thanks Julie, – Steve
