Which social media sites are worth worrying about?

Which social media sites are worth worrying aboutWhen it comes to Social media, blogging and building a brand, you want to everywhere. Or as many places as possible. So how do you do that? What sites are important and what do I need to know about them?

Facebook- Your blog should have its own Facebook page and you should keep it updated with at least your blog posts. When one person likes or comments on your page, their friends can usually see it. I am not sure how long Facebook will be this popular but for now it is. And for now this is where everyone is. From teenagers to Grandmas. People are use to liking pages on Facebook and if they find you interesting they will want to like you too.

Twitter- I love Twitter for marketing my blogs. It is easy to do and easy to network with others there. You can use the list feature to organize everyone that you are following. You can easily search for others who like the same interests that you do or who blog about the same type of stuff you blog about.

Pinterest- When you write a new post, pin it. If people come along and enjoy your posts they will pin yours as well. Make sure you are not just pinning your own stuff. Pin stuff that is interesting to you. Start a board having to do with your blog topic. People can just follow that board if they want to. You can get a lot of traffic if people pin your stuff.

You Tube- This is one place I don’t know much about but I keep hearing it can really help you get traffic. You will have to make a video of some kind as it is a video site but for those that want to do that, it can be a really good thing.

LinkedIn- I haven’t spent a lot of time on Linked in but I have heard that signing up there is a good idea. Add your blogs and where you write. Make connections. Not so much for sharing every link but more for networking and maybe finding possible jobs.

Google+- Although Google+ isn’t as popular as Facebook right now, it might be sometime in the future. It is easy to share your posts on there and connect with other people. I love the circle idea and have created a few different circles for all of my interests. Google+ also seems to be a great place for photographers to connect.

Social media is hot right now and I don’t think that is going to change anytime soon. It is important to make sure you are showing up on multiple sites, not just one. I am trying to get into the habit to share my posts on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+. I find these four to be the most popular and the best way to get social media traffic. Make sure you have ways for people to share your content right from your blog. They will be more likely to share if you make it easy for them to do so.

What is your favorite social media site?

  1. My all time favorite is Twitter, quick, easy and lots of interaction on many topics. Great for personal, news and business. Google+ would be my 2nd or Pinterest a close tie.

  2. I have to admit I /love/ Pinterest but I think the key is NOT to only post your own blogs but share other resources as well that your audience will enjoy. (A+ for Pinterest for me). Facebook can be frustrating in that it doesn’t share posts with all of your ‘fans’ anymore but it is still a rewarding social media outlet in the long run. I have to admit I have my ups and downs with Twitter. I just have to be ‘in the mood’. :)

  3. Oh! My favorite? Right now is Facebook, no Twitter, no G+. Argh! They are all great but I do have to say, in terms of great readers being sent to my blog I would say Facebook for sure.

I do like that you mention you are not sure how long FB will be be popular. They change guidelines so much I wonder when people will get tired of them. And for business, this can be a pain in the butt. For now, FB is a great place to share you events, posts and info. I think it will be around for a long time but you never know….
