Why Blog Commenting Is So Important

Why Blog Commenting Is So ImportantNot doing as much this summer meant I was not commenting on blogs as much as I should have been. I had missed reading what others were writing about and interacting with them. I missed out on that connection. Connection to others in the blogging world which is just so important.

That is why I believe commenting is so important! Yes,  commenting can drive traffic to your site. Yes, it can give you backlinks which helps your ratings. But really, the best part of commenting is the connections you make.

Once you hit publish on a post, it goes out into the Internet world. It will attract some people right away. They will see you posted a new post and head on over to check it out. Others will see it on social media and click your link. Then you have those that see a comment you left on another blog. If you are leaving good comments, people will be more likely to click on your profile to see what your site is about. If the blog you commented on has Comment Luv installed, then it makes it even easier for people to see what you blog about.

I know for myself that when I find a blog post I really like, I look through the comments to see what other people are saying and to see if I can find any new blogs to follow. I figure that if that person has a lot to say about the post I am currently reading, they might have more to say on their own blog. I just love this method of finding new blogs. It is also why it is so important that you leave a good blog comment when responding to others.

Some posts don’t really require an in-depth comment. If you are following a blog and they post a photo of their child on their birthday, it is common to say something like, “How cute!” or “What a sweet kid. Happy Birthday to him.” I think that for those types of posts, those types of comments are expected and are just fine to make. On the other hand, I don’t think they really make someone else want to click on your link. Now if you said something like., “What a sweet boy! I have a son who will be one in a month, and I am very excited about his party too. We are also going to go with a Star Wars theme,” you might get someone clicking on your link. Why? Well not only did you say something nice to the blogger, but you let others know that you are into Star Wars and planning a party like that too. If someone else is interested in Star Wars they will probably click on your link to see if you have anything else about that on your blog.

Other blogging niches require more than a simple comment. In some cases they will not approve your comment if it is just a couple of words. Try hard to think about what you can add to the conversation.

If you are able to consistently add good comments to blogs, you will gain new readers and really become a part of the blogging community for your niche. People will start to notice you and realize who you are. This is why blog commenting is so important. It is the gateway to the blogging community you want to be a part of.

Do you like to leave blog comments?

  1. I do like to leave comments although I didn’t leave comments prior to having a blog. Once I realized how meaningful it was for me to get comments on my own blog, then I started commenting a lot more on others’ blogs. I also usually make a point to go back and see if the author responded to my comments and decide from there if I will return to the blog or subscribe. I’m also like to read the comments on posts and have discovered quite a few blogs I really love by clicking over to a blog from the comments.

  2. I like leaving comments if I have something to contribute. Sometimes I just don’t have anything different to say. If there are already quite a few comments and everyone else has already said what I would have said…well then there doesn’t seem to be much reason for me to say anything. Unless they are asking for folks to agree or disagree…for a poll or something.

  3. I try to comment on blogs whenever I can. I try to respond to most comments on my blog even if it’s just a quick “thank you” to let the commenter know that I read and appreciate their comments. If they have an email address listed, I copy and paste my response to them in an email because I know that most people don’t go back and check for a response. There are a few blogs I read where the writer NEVER responds to comments and it makes me feel like they really don’t care if anyone comments or not which is not a good way to connect with your readers.

  5. Yes blog posting is great for getting backlinks, but I agree the benefit is in the actual reading of the blog posts. Those that simply post a comment without reading are loosing out. You can learn so much from other blogs! Thank you for this post. You got me motivated to do more commenting & I got the comment luv plugin installed in my blog.

  6. Hi Julie, I think blog commenting is very useful because you can know what your readers are looking for, learn what questions they have and leads to more posts in the future. It is great for the commentor as well to get backlinks and get to know other bloggers along the way. It’s great to see a blog community form from comments too! I believe our blogs are the hub of soical media.
